The Moon Church from Oradea, Bihor county, was built between 1784 – 1790 by the architect Jacob Edner.
It belongs to the baroque architectural style, with various neoclassic elements. Moon Church is an orthodox church with the Assumption as the titular saint. The name “with moon” is due to the fact that in the bell tower, right under the clock there is a sphere – half black and half golden – which spins when the clock turns, imitating the moon phases.
Tourists have the possibility to admire the face of Horea (a Romanian hero). Until recently the Church was a cathedral, but for unofficial reasons was named a church.
