The Ciocanesti commune from Suceava county is unique in Romania due to ”the ornated house” that it has. Thus, the houses from the commune are ”ornated” or ”decorated” with folk motives which are also found on Romanian traditional costume.
Among very beautifully painted and ornated walls, one can also see amazing carpets and rugs. According to the locals, the tradition of decorating houses began in the `50s. Therefore, nowadays we can admire over 600 decorated houses in the commune, which are now heritage sights.
Ciocanesti is also the place for The National Museum of Decorated Eggs and each year, the City Hall organizes various folk tradition festivals.
