The Danube Depression is situated in Mehedinti county and represents a part of the Danube Canyon, at the entrance through the Carpathians. In some areas of the Danube Depression, the river becomes very narrow (up to 230 meters), thus making the sailing difficult.

The Great Danube Depression is 4 kilometers long and is situated between the Ciucaru Mare Mountain from Romania and the Velki Strabac Mountain from Serbia. The Little Danube Depression is 3 kilometers long and the river is surrounded by rocky, vertical walls, which create amazing landscapes that attract a lot of tourists.

Close to the Mraconia Bay from the Danube Depression, tourists can see the statue of Decebal, the great Dacian ruler, which was carved on stone. The Danube Depression is part of the Iron Gates National Park.
