The Aiud Fortress is located in Aiud, Alba county. The fortress was built in the 14th century, being one of the oldest fortresses from Transylvania. It was also modified in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Fortress hosts a Calvinist Church and an Evangelical Church, which are surrounded by the fortified wall. Archaeologists found beneath the fortress a Roman establishment built in the 3rd century.
The Aiud Fortress is formed by nine towers, which can be visited: The Butchers Tower, The Tailors Tower, The Shoemakers Tower, The Coopers Tower, The Potters Tower, The Kalendas Tower, The Blacksmiths Tower and The Gate Tower. In the north side of the Fortress is situated The Vaivode Palace, which is now, The Aiud Museum of History, which was recently restored.
