The Calnic Fortress from Alba county is a very important historic monument that was included in the UNESCO list of world heritage sights. The Fortress was built in the 13th century to be a noble house by the German settlers. It was surrounded by thick stone walls and a water ditch. In the 15th century, the locals from Calnic became the owners of the Fortress and started to modernize it. Thus, they built a chapel, a church, towers and many walls.
The Calnic Fortress can be visited for a fee of 6 lei for adults and 3 lei for students and retired people. It can be visited everyday, between 9,00 – 19,00.
