The Oratea or Oratia Fortress was built on Sasului Hill, Podu Dâmboviţei village, Argeş county. According to some specialists, the Fortress was built in the 13th century by Teuton knights, as an order of Andrew the IInd, King of Hungary, to protect Barsa Region. Other specialists, said that The Oratia Fortress was a Customs of Transylvania and that when it was passed to Valachia, the King Louis the Vth would have ordered the building of the Bran Castle in order to replace it (the second half of the 14th century). However, no one can know for sure, when the fortress was built.
Nowadays, there are only ruins from The Fortress of Oratia. The Arges County Council became the owner of the ruins and plans to restore and make The Fortress an important tourist sight.
