The Poenari Fortress is a historical monument located in Arges county, in the Argesului Gorges. It was built in the 14th century, near Arefu village. It is 25 kilometers away from Curtea de Argeş.

The Poenari Fortress was built by Vlad The Impaler , a well-known Romanian leader, as a supervising poin on the peak of a mountain. The historic monument offers the possibility to see and admire the beautiful view of the Arges Valley.

Nowadays, the ruins of the Fortress are set up as a tourist sight and attract many visitors all throughout the year.
