The Corcoaia Gorges is a natural national reservation and an international habitat protected area, situated in Mehedinti Mountains, on the upper part of the Cerna river, in the Gorj county. The Gorges were created as a result of the erosion done by Cerna river to Corcoaia Mountain. Although the gorges are only 300 meters long, they are impressive by their height – the walls are 100 meters high and their base is up to 5 meters.
The Corcoaia Gorges is an important tourist sight of The Cerna Valley and can be visited only when the waters are low. The path from the gorges has a metal balustrade to protect tourists from danger. This natural monument is included in The Domogled-Cerna Valley National Park.
