The Treasury Museum from Tismana, Gorj county, is the only European museum in which visitors can see the most important moments from 1944 – 1947, as described in documents that belong to the National Bank of Romania archive.
The Museum exhibitis objects specific to 1944 – 1947, when for a short period of time the cave near the Tismana Monastery hosted 200 tones of gold. Romania`s national treasury was hidden in the cave because it was in danger of being taken by the Russians. A part of the national treasury of Poland was hidden in the cave to be protected against the Russians, as well.
At The Treasury Museum from Tismana, inaugurated in July 2016, the visitors can learn new information about the role of money and the national bank in the economy and dates about the evolution of the Romanian National Bank.
