Sarmizegetusa Regia is the name of the ancient capital of pre-Roman Dacia. It is situated in Orastie Mountains, at 1,200 meters altitude and was a center of six Dacian fortresses that was used by King Decebal to defend the province against the Roman attacks. Some historians say that it dates from the 3rd – 2nd centuries B.Ch. After the Roman conquest, the capital of the new region was moved 40 kilometers away, at Ulpia Traiana (Sarmisegetuza).
Sarmisegetuza Regia is part of the UNESCO world heritage list.
