The Metropolitan Cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Sibiu and the Metropolitan of Transylvania. It is located in Sibiu.
It was built in the style of a Byzantine basilica, inspired by Saint Sophia from Constantinople (Istanbul), but with influences of Transylvanian church architecture combined with Baroque elements. The church is dedicated to the “Holy Trinity”.
The construction was coordinated by architect Joseph Schussnig and it began in 1902. The exterior is made of red and yellow brick and the roof is made of copper.
