The Gura Motrului Monastery is situated in Butoiesti commune, Mehedinti county. It is a fortified monastery complex very well preserved, which dates from the mid 17th century. This religious edifice is a historic monument and represents an important tourist attraction.
The true builder of the Monastery is Saint Nicodim, who originally erected a wooden skete that was surrounded by a church and a few cells. What`s also worth mentioning is the fact that Nicodim planted vine around the monastery complex, which is still growing today. Subsequently, the Gura Motrului Monastery developed with the help of Matei Basarab or Constantin Brancoveanu, both important Valachian rulers.
It is dedicated to “Saint Paraschiva”.
