The fossil reservation it is at 800 meters altitude on the south side of Igniș mountains and has a surface of 50 ha. The zone has arboreal trees like beech, oak, maple or elm and an outcrop nearby,

The reservation was founded in 1954 and is a protected area. The fossils are 5.3 million years old and were discovered by Austrian geologists in the 18th century. Regarding the fossil fauna there were found insects remains or Leuciscus herringbone.
