Retezat National Park is a protected area, located in Hunedoara county. Its purpose is to preserve and protect the wild flora, fauna and their natural habitats. The area comprises 1,190 species of plants, together with over 195 species of birds and animals. It has a surface of 380.5 square kilometers and is situated at an altitude of over 2,000 meters.
